An exciting opportunity has arisen as part of our growing Exercise Therapy Team across the acute inpatient wards to work as an Exercise Therapy Assistant at St Georges Park, Morpeth.
The role involves working directly into acute admission wards for patients over the age of 18 with a mental health illness who require assessment and treatment by a multi-disciplinary team in hospital.
Main duties of the job
The Exercise Therapy team prescribe exercise as an intervention for the physical and mental health needs of our service users. The role involves developing therapeutic relationships with our service users by working into the inpatient ward to promote the benefits of physical activity and supporting them to make positive lifestyle changes.
The purpose of the role is to assist the exercise therapists to provide a range of exercise groups on the ward as part of a weekly timetable of activities. The exercise therapy assistant will work closely with the exercise therapist and ward staff to support our service users to achieve their individual goals.
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the safety of service users whilst exercising by ensuring correct and safe exercise techniques whilst in the gym and exercise groups. The role entails daily documentation in electronic medical notes, facilitating exercise groups, routine domestic duties and department tasks.
Exercise Therapy work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and the post holder will be required to liaise with the other professionals within the MDT with regards to exercise treatment plans, physical health triggers, patient progress and discharge planning, they will attend ward meetings as required.

Education and Qualification

- Minimum of reps level 2 – gym instructor and level 3 –exercise referral or personal trainer qualifications
- Relevant exercise qualifications – circuit training/kettlebells/box-fit etc
- BASES membership
- Maths and English Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent
