Job overview

We are seeking two outstanding individuals to work as members of our ETOC team developing, co-ordinating and delivering engagement activities alongside ETOC HCA and nursing staff, to patients receiving enhanced therapeutic observations and care.  The Band 4 ETOC Activities Co-ordinators will also contribute to the development and review of person-centred care plans for each individual and will act as point of liaison between the ETOC team and the King’s Volunteers.

Main duties of the job

  • Plan and support the delivery of person-centred and individualised activities for patients under Enhanced Therapeutic Observations and Care
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of individualised engagement care plans for patients under the care of the ETOC team
  • Support the delivery of distraction therapies, reminiscence work and other engagement strategies with patients
  • Implement de-escalation techniques and strategies and therapeutic communication approaches for patients experiencing distress, agitation or other challenging behaviours
  • Work closely collaboratively with patients, relatives and carers and ensure their voice is heard and remains central in care plans and the support provided by the team
  • Provide support to other members of the ETOC team who are facilitating one to one care, and staff sourced from bank and agency
  • Work closely with the ETOC team HCAs and Volunteer service staff, and the wider ward and department MDTs to engage patients and build strong therapeutic relationships
  • Assist the senior ETOC team members as required with the deployment of resources across site and ensure a high standard of documentation and verbal handover
  • Work closely with occupational therapists to ensure activity and support plans align

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Provide day to day on the ground support to ETOC HCAs, Volunteer staff and department and ward teams involved in therapeutic engagement
  • Support the delivery of training and education to enhanced care staff within the team and elsewhere across the Trust on specialist topics, including mental health awareness, de-escalation techniques and therapeutic interventions
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, contributing to holistic care planning
  • Mentor new junior team members during induction periods ensuring effective integration into the ETOC team
  • Support in the co-ordination of team meetings and communication sessions, ensuring effective information sharing and team cohesion

Skills and competencies

Essential

  • Solid understanding of the needs and difficulties of people who experience mental health problems
  • Ability to implement and evaluate activity and engagement plans to meet the needs of patients

Knowledge and experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in a mental health or social care setting
  • Experience of supporting activities in groups or in 1:1 work

Education and qualifications

Essential

  • Level 3 qualification in health and social care, or equivalent

Desirable

  • Creative qualification in the arts
  • Qualification or equivalent training related to mental health care
