Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Responding to requests for medical device loans from the library, identifying the appropriate device and ensuring that it is in a state fit for use, and delivering the equipment to a requesting ward/ unit in a timely manner.
  • Using the medical equipment database system to update medical equipment library related records such as test jobs, loans and parts’ orders.
  • Ensuring that the medical devices are moved safely and in line with Trust health and safety policy and manual handling policy
  • Keeping electronic records of items on loan, and collecting equipment from wards/ units, including searching for equipment and dealing with users in a professional manner in order to locate equipment.
  • Cleaning and decontaminating certain equipment on return or prior to their inspection or repair.
  • Performing library equipment and parts inventory stocktake on quarterly basis and reporting the findings to their line manager.
  • Performing functional checks on library equipment and checking for missing accessories and replacing them as needed.
  • Performing certain first line service on medical devices appropriate for the role as directed by the line management.
  • Under the supervision of their line manager, liaising with representative of external suppliers and service providers of medical equipment to ensure that the company engineers have access to equipment due for maintenance or update.
  • Collecting and moving medical devices from a location to another within the hospital or between the Trust sites in cases of need, such as rollouts, incidents, alerts, etc.
  • Searching the hospital to find medical devices that are due for service and bringing them to the MDTS team workshop(s)
  • Delivering medical devices back to clinical areas when they are serviced by the MDTS team.
  • Helping with the assembly of new medical devices.
  • Using the device tracking system for the medical equipment and maintaining the replacing the batteries of the tracking tags across St George’s hospital site
  • Checking incoming devices for due Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) dates and segregating them if necessary.
  • Providing advice to Nursing and Medical staff on the care of equipment within the hospital and promoting appropriate handling and safe storage of medical devices.
  • Keeping the computerised records accurate and complete, including making checks on the status and availability of equipment.
  • Making sure that equipment library stocks of accessories and other parts held by the library do not run out by monitoring and ordering stock regularly.
  • The post holder will behave courteously and professionally at all times and seek to ensure that the highest level of service is provided. Customers should at all times receive a high quality, prompt and efficient service and be kept up to date as to the progress of their outstanding requests.
  • To take part in the section meetings and contribute to the development of procedures devised by the quality manger to improve the service of the library.
  • To maintain high professional standards in all aspects of the job, and to seek to develop those competencies.
  • To comply with the departmental locally maintained quality management system ISO13845 and relevant procedures.
  • To undertake other duties as may be required from time to time that are consistent with the responsibilities of the grade and the needs of the service.
