Job overview

EPR Programme Risk Manager - EPR - Fixed Term / Secondment till 31st December 2027

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail‑driven EPR Risk Manager to support the safe delivery, assurance and ongoing governance of digital clinical systems across the organisation.

This role is central to ensuring that all Health IT (HIT) systems—particularly the shared integrated Electronic Patient Record—are implemented and maintained in line with national clinical safety standards, regulatory requirements and best practice.

Main duties of the job

The EPR Risk Manager will work closely with the Group Chief Clinical Safety Officer (CSO) to manage and oversee the assurance of clinical safety cases for all relevant HIT software. You will ensure that safety‑related risks are actively identified, assessed and managed, and that appropriate mitigations are clearly communicated to clinical, operational and digital stakeholders.

A key part of the role involves raising awareness of clinical risk management principles across the organisation, supporting staff, suppliers and partners to embed a strong safety culture and adhere to DCB clinical safety standards. You will collaborate with suppliers, internal teams and NHS England (Digital) to provide organisational assurance on the clinical safety of information systems.

The postholder will also play a critical role in the procurement and implementation of new HIT systems and medical devices, ensuring compliance with DCB0160, reviewing DCB0129 documentation, Data Protection Impact Assessments and relevant medical device regulatory information. As part of the organisation’s digital strategy, you will ensure that robust clinical risk management is applied throughout the full lifecycle of digital systems—including deployment, development, upgrades and modifications

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GWH), Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust (RUH) and Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust (SFT) are implementing a new Electronic Patient Record (EPR) on a shared domain. The EPR will be implemented across the Trusts to improve quality & safety and to enable efficient working practices, leading to better patient experiences.

The EPR implementation forms an integral part of an innovative and exciting transformation programme that will provide a comprehensive digital experience, incorporating the full range of functionality required to deliver excellent patient care.

The EPR Risk Manager will provide expert advice, guidance, and assurance, leading the identification, assessment, management and reporting of risks and issues across the BSW EPR Programme. The postholder will work autonomously within defined policies, exercising professional judgement and escalating significant or strategic risks to the SRO or Programme Board as required.

The postholder will ensure that programme-level and workstream risks are effectively captured, mitigated, escalated and reported in line with best practice programme and risk management methodologies. The Risk Manager will work alongside the clinical and project team members, in delivering an aligned and optimised EPR implementation. They will be part of the Programme Team supporting senior managers and clinical staff with risk and issue management, as well as those within the system supplier’s implementation team.

The role is critical in supporting successful delivery of the EPR Programme by providing robust assurance, clear risk visibility and timely intelligence to support informed decision-making at Programme Board and senior stakeholder level.
