
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Band 7 Epilepsy Nurse Specialist (Neurology) to permanently join our established specialist service at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
This is a unique clinical role supporting adults with highly complex, long-term epilepsy needs.
The post holder will work autonomously across a wide geographical area, providing specialist assessment, clinical decision-making, patient and family support, education, and leadership, while working closely with multidisciplinary teams across hospital and community services.
Deliver a high quality, specialist epilepsy nursing service to patients from the age of 18 with established epilepsy and those undergoing diagnosis.
Act as a source of expert advice and information for patients, carers and other healthcare professionals to improve epilepsy care for the local population.
Work independently with a caseload of patients and undertake advanced clinical assessments and make autonomous clinical decisions.
Run independent nurse-led clinics and interpret diagnostic information
Support complex discharges, admission avoidance and with a particular emphasis on improving in-patient flow where possible.
Deliver specialist education and training to staff caring for this specialist group within NUH and external care providers and provide a resource for members of the MDT.
Work in conjunction with other members of the epilepsy team to develop the strategic plan for the adult epilepsy service to ensure delivery of an efficient and cost effective service.
Ensure that the aims and objectives of the adult epilepsy service are delivered and implemented to continually improve the standard of care that adults with epilepsy receive, including any National guidance.
Deliver highly specialist, evidence-based care for patients with complex epilepsy needs.
Act as a key point of contact and advocate for patients and families
Maintain accurate clinical records in line with Trust policy
Identify patients with established epilepsy and support those undergoing diagnosis.
Work within all groups of patients with epilepsy including those with intellectual disability, epilepsy in pregnancy and young people in transition from paediatric care.
Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement and service development
Work in line with Trust values, safeguarding, and information governance requirements
Travel independently across a wide geographical area (full UK driving licence required)
