An exciting opportunity has arisen, and we are looking for a dynamic individual to join our team of Endoscopy Decontamination Technician at our JAG accredited Endoscopy unit at Weston General hospital which has a green IHEEM rating for decontamination services.

The post holder will undertake decontamination of flexible endoscopes duties according to equipment requirements and assist the supervisors and manager in providing and maintaining a high-quality accredited service, this will be inclusive of logistical responsibilities and management of reusable medical devices utilised within clinical care.

The post holder will be required to receive, disassemble, clean, disinfect and store endoscopes within controlled environments, ensuring comprehensive records of all tasks are maintained for tracking traceability purposes, adhering to the departments Standard Operating procedures and quality management systems to ensure an effective and compliant service is delivered.

Main duties of the job

To undertake decontamination science duties & assist (under supervision) the workforce of Decontamination Supervisors, in providing a high quality, specialised, safe & efficient decontamination of endoscopes & medical devices service contributing to the clinical care of the patient.

To carry out the timely collection, receipt, disassembly, cleaning, disinfection, checking, reassembly, packing, sterilization, dispatch & delivery of reusable medical devices.

Record all tasks in the Healthcare Science Information Systems (tracking & tracing) database.

Work in accordance with the Department's Standard Operating Procedures & Quality Management Systems

To welcome & accompany service contractors to the department.

Plan your own workload with limited supervision to deliver timely, smooth & accurate production.

Assist with the supervision and teaching in decontamination practices.

The role involves exposure to remnants of blood, body tissue or offensive by-products as part of the cleaning cycles.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To support the Decontamination Lead and work in a team with decontamination staff on a daily basis, and undertake tasks within the decontamination area supporting the decontamination team in accordance with UHBW NHS Foundation Trust Policy and Procedures.
  • To assess the departments’ workload at regular intervals during the shift and organise the resources accordingly to respond in a timely manner to external customers’ needs
  • To participate in the decontamination, of contaminated items that arrive in the department.
  • To ensure that daily tests of the department’s machinery i.e. washer/disinfectors, is undertaken as per procedure manual.
  • To inspect the cleanliness/correctness of equipment/instrumentation together with checking the items for durability.
  • To ensure all documentation is completed in a legible, correct and timely manner.
  • To ensure that issues raised are recorded and logged on either paper and/or via computer systems.
  • To ensure all work is performed in line with up-to-date guidelines both National and local, including JAG IHEEM standards.
  • To resolve problems that occurs within the decontamination areas.  Maintain contact with end users with regard to production and turnaround times.
  • Assist in restocking of supplies and record all information required.
