We are looking for an innovative motivated Endoscopy Support Worker (ESW) to join our friendly Endoscopy team

We are a JAG accredited unit providing Bowel Cancer screening for South East London. We have 4 procedure rooms and will be expanding the unit due to increase work load.

We are a busy unit providing therapeutic, diagnostic and emergency service for both Inpatients as well as outpatients.

The successful candidate will have an excellent interpersonal relationship and communication skills and the ability to use their initiative.

Main duties of the job

The Endoscopy Support Worker will participate in the decontamination, traceability and maintenance of endoscopes and other specialised equipment used in endoscopic procedures.

The Endoscopy Support Worker will also work under the supervision of the qualified nursing staff to participate and support the members of the multi-disciplinary team in delivering high quality patient care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Assist with the Decontamination and reprocessing of Endoscopy equipment in accordance with local and national guidelines.

Maintain accurate traceability records of all endoscopes and endoscopic accessories and ancillaries.

Assist with quality assurance checks.

Participate in testing of rinse water

To assist qualified staff in monitoring agreed standards of practice within the unit.

To participate in the Trust’s Individual Performance Review process and demonstrate commitment to ongoing professional development by working towards the objectives agreed within an annual Personal Development Plan.

To participate in local Clinical Supervision.

Attend designated Study Days, and complete relevant training activities and assessments.

Work/Experience

Essential

  • Experience working within Endoscopy Unit
  • Ability to work as part of a team and use own initiative.
  • Able to work under supervision and independently under guidance
  • Aware of principles of Infection Control/Decontamination or a similar Environment
  • Experience of working in the NHS

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Good standard of general education.
  • Completion of the National Decontamination Training and Endoscopy Training (e-learning)

Skills, Knowledge and Ability

Essential

  • Computer literate. - Knowledge and use of basic IT
  • Able to demonstrate good numeracy and literacy skills. Written, Numerical, Verbal, Analytical, etc
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Manual dexterity with an aptitude to work with complex equipment

Personal Characteristics / Disposition

Essential

  • Willing to learn and take instruction
  • Demonstrable knowledge of equipment used in healthcare and ensure that they are compatible and in good working order and escalate any concerns to a registered professional
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and prioritise work and meet deadlines
  • Good communication skills.
