Job overview

A vacancy has arisen for an admin support secretary in the Endocrinology department at Birmingham Children's Hospital. The post holder will play an important role providing admin support to the specialist Nurses, junior Doctors, Consultants and Medical secretaries within this busy department. You will enjoy working within  a multi-disciplinary team and have the ability to relate and work closely with young people, parents and members of the public.

Main duties of the job

Typing letters/reports/discharge summaries from audio dictation as requested.

Arranging outpatient appointments as required, completing appropriate documentation and contacting families.

Arranging for patients to be seen for day case admissions when required.

Exercise judgment and initiative when problems arise by taking appropriate action to resolve the problem, or by referring the problem to the appropriate person.

Ensure letters and discharge summaries are sent out in accordance with the locally agreed time scales.

Receiving and acting upon telephone and email enquiries as appropriate.

Input and accessing patient data on the computer in accordance with Trust policy using EPIC, and E-mail systems.

To ensure team post is opened daily and dealt with accordingly.

Arrange meetings and appointments as necessary.

Putting together information packs for families and relevant nursing documentation.

Providing support to the Medical Secretaries.

Be versatile and adaptable to the demands of the team.

Imputing of procedural data.
