Job overview

As Receptionist in the Emergency Department, you'll be the first point of contact for patients and visitors, and will take charge of collecting patient information, processing paperwork, whilst providing a friendly and welcoming service to all.

You'll provide administrative support to facilitate the patient's progress through the hospital system and help maintain the most up to date patient records.

As well as general reception duties, the role has many different parts to it and will include supporting clinical members of staff within ED. No two days are the same!

Please note that this position will entail working a variety of shifts which will involve nights, early starts, evening and weekends, so a reliable and flexible approach is required. Flexibility to work additional shifts as and when required would be advantageous.

Main duties of the job

  • To undertake reception duties for the department including accurately booking patients into the electronic system and responding to enquiries ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times. 2. Adhere to local policies and procedures. 3. Communicate in the appropriate manner with members of the public and staff, taking into account any communication difficulties ie. hard of hearing, non-English speaking Nationals.  4. Answering telephone enquiries and transferring calls within department or other departments. 5. Maintain the alphabetical filing system. 6. Ensure all patient referrals are processed efficiently 7. Deal tactfully, sensitively and with empathy with all patients and relatives attending the department. 8. Work as part of a team within the Emergency Department. 9. To attend training courses as required by the departmental manager. 10. Use of computer systems where appropriate, including establishing a database, e-mail system, the Internet and intranet and other office systems.
