Responsible for the day‑to‑day operational management and performance of Electro Biomedical Engineering (EBME) services across Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and partner sites. Main duties of the job
Responsible for providing safe and efficient day to day operational management and performance of Electro‑Biomedical Engineering (EBME) services to the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and its partner sites.
Proactively develop a fully customer focused, high quality and responsive maintenance function which will minimise risk of harm to staff and people who use services.
Delivery of EBME projects, repair and servicing programmes to maintain a high quality EBME service that staff are proud to work in and end users have confidence in.
Ensures the department meets its performance targets, KPIs are reported on regular basis, and the service complies with all legislative and regulatory requirements.
Providing professional leadership, mentorship, and development opportunities to team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.
Act as the Trust’s specialist for all engineering and maintenance matters giving professional advice on such issues as Health and Safety compliance, medical equipment management, equipment library services.
Produce and implement EBME policies related to the operational management of medical devices.
Manage maintenance programmes ensuring projects and equipment are prioritised in line with safety and Trust needs, and within set budgets.

Operational leadership: Manage day‑to‑day EBME service delivery, prioritise work and maintain equipment availability.
Performance management: Monitor and report KPIs, implement corrective actions to meet service and compliance targets.
Maintenance and repairs: Plan and deliver PPM, repair, and servicing programmes in line with MHRA and Trust requirements.
Project delivery: Lead equipment replacement, and EBME projects to time, quality and budget.
Regulatory compliance: Ensure compliance with medical device regulations, MHRA guidance, CQC standards, and Trust policies.
Risk and governance: Maintain workshops and equipment libraries; manage risks and respond to incidents, audits, and inspections.
Financial oversight: Control maintenance expenditure, support procurement decisions, and ensure cost‑effective resource utilisation.
People leadership: Provide professional leadership, mentorship, and development to the EBME team, promoting continuous improvement, safe working practices, and high‑quality service delivery aligned with MHRA and CQC standards.

Job Related Experience
Essential
- Experience of competitive tendering / procurement processes, and the production of financially and strategically sound change proposals.
- At least ten years post graduate experience across a range of areas relating to the management of medical devices in a multisite environment
- Previous experience in a management capacity in the NHS or any other large public sector organisation.
- At least 5 years’ experience at a senior level in a similar organisation, coupled with in-depth knowledge in an advisory and management role.
- Experience in the development of policy, procedures and business cases relating to electronic and/or medical equipment management.
Desirable
- Knowledge of British Standards and other health-related guidance on Medical Devices Management.
Qualifications Relevant to Post
Essential
- High degree of specialized knowledge in the Engineering, EBME and project management fields.
- Qualified to degree level in Biomedical/Electrical Engineering, preferably with postgraduate qualification or post qualification training and experience to masters level in management of medical devices or related disciplines.
- Chartered Engineer through membership of an appropriate professional body (e.g., IPEM, IET, I.Mech. E, IEEE) or equivalent experience gained through working as a senior technical services manager (>5yrs).

- Membership of an appropriate Professional Body.
