Job overview

The Digital Infrastructure Manager will be responsible for and be proactive in ensuring that the Trust’s infrastructure including data centres, servers, networks, storage and related systems are robust, resilient and high performing to meet the evolving needs of the Trust.

The role will manage the server, network, and telecoms teams and will work in partnership with the IT service desk, desktop team, application support team, digital portfolio office (P3O) and other stakeholders.

The post holder will work closely with the Assistant Director of Infrastructure and Architecture and the Digital Portfolio Office to ensure infrastructure work programmes are co-ordinated and complimentary.

With a customer-centred mind-set, effective management of stakeholders is an essential part of this role including relationship with project / programme teams, partners and suppliers.

To deliver a responsive, effective, secure and resilient infrastructure service, the post holder will proactively maintain IT infrastructure including configuration, patching, security, connectivity, backup and associated documentation.

The post holder will ensure that underlying infrastructure supports our clinical and corporate systems and align with our strategic objective

The post holder will identify, mitigate and manage infrastructure related risks. They will ensure IT disaster recovery and IT business continuity plans are kept up-to-date

Main duties of the job

Infrastructure Operations

  • Lead the delivery of network, server, telecoms and infrastructure services.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of infrastructure assets, including planning, implementation, maintenance, upgrades, and retirement.

Security, Governance and Compliance

  • Ensure infrastructure services meet security and compliance requirements.
  • Work closely with Cyber Security and Information Governance teams.

Service Management

  • Lead infrastructure support teams in accordance with ITIL best practice.
  • Ensure incidents, requests, problems, and changes are effectively managed and documented.

Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery

  • Develop and maintain infrastructure continuity and disaster recovery plans.
  • Ensure regular testing and validation of recovery procedures.

Financial Management

  • Support budget development and capital planning.
  • Develop business cases and investment proposals.

Leadership and People Management

  • Provide line management for server and network engineering teams.
  • Conduct appraisals, objective setting, and performance reviews.

Strategic Planning and Service Development

  • Develop operational and strategic infrastructure roadmaps.
  • Forecast future capacity and technology requirements.
  • Identify risks, dependencies, and resource needs.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with clinical, operational, and corporate stakeholders.
  • Present complex technical information to senior leadership audiences.
