Job overview

This is an exiting opportunity to undertake an operational management role as a secondment only; overseeing a range of new and existing projects to improve the lives of children and people living with a mental Health diagnosis.

Developing service proposals, financial and budget monitoring skills are essential in this fast paced working environment and expanding area of dietetics.

You will lead and manage the day to day operations and professionals of a designated Paediatric and Mental Health service across the 3 localities in the Health Board; Merthyr & Cynon, Rhondda Taf Ely and Bridgend. The post holder will work closely with the Deputy Head of Dietetics as well as the wider Dietetic Management Team, public health, Multi Disciplinary teams and finance colleagues as well as a range of other stakeholders. You will ensure that your team supports and delivers a quality and outcome focussed dietetic service for the health board population needs, against the achievement of performance and financial targets.

You will have a  strategic role in supporting the  dietetic  service developments.

The post is based in Royal Glamorgan hospital but the post supports a health board wide service and there is opportunities for working from home.

This post is fixed term/secondment for 12 months  from start date to cover a secondment

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for day-to-day operational and strategic management of the paediatric service and professional management of the Dietitians working in the Mental health services to ensure a safe, effective and accessible service is available for the population of Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.

To work in partnership with secondary care services, primary care services, local authority and public health to evaluate the service in line with local and national performance measures.

Communicate highly complex, sensitive, relevant detailed clinical and policy information in an understandable form to managers, clients, health promotion, UHB and identified trainers.

Empower and support staff to actively improve themselves and the specialist area of the service within their scope of practice and responsibility. Provides assurance that all health professionals within weight management services have appropriate professional supervision arrangements in place.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

  • Degree/Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent.
  • MSc or its equivalent level of knowledge, skills and experience.
  • Management qualification or evidence of management development e.g. leadership / coaching / mentoring.
  • Evidence of or qualification and knowledge in research and audit.
  • Professional registration with associated body.
  • Detailed specialist knowledge of dietetics in paediatrics and mental health services.
  • Advanced postgraduate training/experience in specialist clinical area.

Desirable

  • Member specialist interest group associated with area of expertise.

Experience

Essential

  • Clinical experience at a senior level across a variety of settings.
  • Experience of working as a senior member of a dietetic team to deliver patient and organisational objectives.
  • Experience of working with partners external to health including professional organisations.
  • Experience of developing dietetic professional standards and policies in area of expertise
  • Able to maintain effective working relationships with relevant stakeholders.
