Job overview

Working as part of the Dermatology team, the Healthcare Assistant will provide high-quality clinical and administrative support to ensure the smooth running of outpatient clinics and minor procedures. The post holder will assist with patient care, prepare clinical areas and equipment, support clinicians during procedures, undertake delegated clinical tasks and help maintain a safe, clean and welcoming environment for patients. This is an excellent opportunity to join a friendly multidisciplinary team delivering specialist dermatology services at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder is responsible for assisting in all areas within Dermatology including Phototherapy, Minor Surgery, dermatology day care treatments including patch testing and Iontophoresis.
  • Will be trained to deliver Iontophoresis and assisting in Patch test clinic under the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • To take medical photographs for the Teledermatology service.
  • To deliver topical treatments to patients attending day care unit under the supervision of registered nurse.
  • To assist clinicians in Minor Surgery acting as scrub or assisting nurse. Will be prepared to undergone training for this.
  • Work within an interdisciplinary team of nursing, medical, paramedical and clerical staff to provide quality patient services.
  • Be responsible for the effective assessment of care needs, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care within the department.
  • Actively participate in the health promotion and education of clients, carers and relatives where appropriate.
  • As part of an interdisciplinary team, provide a broad range of health care activities that will be specified by individual programmes of care for clients
  • Provide the relevant support, mentorship, supervision and education to unqualified defined staff groups as required.
  • Provide an effective role model, demonstrating the appropriate skills and knowledge.
  • Fully achieve and maintain competencies within the competency framework for this post.
