This Senior Nursing role provides professional leadership for nursing staff across the six Business Units in the Cancer, Diagnostics and Clinical Support (CDCS) Division. Working with the Senior Leadership Team the Deputy Director of Nursing (DDND) in CDCS the post holder assists in leading on quality and governance, safe staffing and patient safety. The DDND supports Matrons and Senior Nurses in delivering excellent care across the range of wards and specialist services in the Division, ensuring that Trust expectations and objectives are met, providing professional advice and leadership to the nursing workforce.
As part of the Divisional Senior Team the DDND acts as a source of professional nurse guidance contributing to the shared accountability for safe and effective delivery of care.
As the most Senior Nursing Lead in the Division this role is key to linking the delivery of Corporate, Organisational, Divisional priorities with nursing staff objectives and service improvements across the Division, working with other senior leaders, within and across Divisions, and the wider clinical and non-clinical workforce to achieve the Trust priorities.
Main duties of the job
Support and deputise when required for the Director of AHPs and Healthcare Scientists (DAHP) in day to day activity, to provide a high level of professional, operational and practice improvement leadership across the Division and wider Trust.
Assist in operational accountability for the Divisions nursing workforce as well as setting and delivering strategic direction for the Divisional Nursing Teams.
Provide professional nursing expertise and help in advising on operational management issues regarding safety, quality and governance for the Business Units, Division and across the Trust
Contribute to the corporate nursing resource and assist the DAHP in holding a portfolio of responsibility to be managed Trust wide reporting to the Executive Chief Nurse.
Establish and maintain effective communication links with the Corporate Nursing team, when required provide briefings on current issues as they impact on patient care/nursing.
