Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join NEMS as our new Deputy Director of Operations - a key senior leadership role for an experienced operational leader who is passionate about delivering high-quality, patient-centred services and making a real difference to the communities we serve.

The post holder will have operational responsibility for services across NEMS to ensure operational performance targets including; access, workforce and service improvement are achieved. This involves delivery of all operational targets, ensuring services are provided within the agreed levels of activity, standards of performance, safety, quality and budget.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will act as Deputy for the Director of Operations in their absence, attending meetings to represent NEMS and will report directly to the Director of Operations.

Supporting the Director of Operations, and working with Service teams the postholder is responsible for the operational day to day planning, monitoring and delivery of services.

The post holder will be responsible for leading on and delivering success across a number of key programmes within NEMS, these programmes are essential in ensuring NEMS can deliver its core objectives and will include a range of areas including productivity and efficiency, service development and workforce development and succession planning.

Job responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Line management of Service Manager team.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, you will be a key and integral member of the senior management team.

Deputise for Director of Operations at both internal and external meetings as required

Responsible for the day-to-day operational delivery of services across NEMS, responsible for ensuring where performance standards are off track that the drivers are understood and improvement plans are developed, implemented and evaluated to meet service expectations.

Provide a professional, senior management contribution across NEMS, working in partnership with Clinical teams and others to deliver cost efficient, high quality and responsive services.

Play a key role in the Senior leadership team meeting.

Engage and collaborate with Clinical and Operational teams to identify operational improvement opportunities

Drive service improvement opportunities monitoring impact against key performance information.

You will have the autonomy to generate ideas in improving all services

Where required attend contract meetings with commissioners

Review operational performance in conjunction with contractual obligations

Support the Director of Operations and Director of Finance and Corporate Services to maintain the management of contracts commissioned by ICB and other providers, including support to any procurement exercises to ensure timely rebidding.

Actively engage in partnership collaborations

Support Head of Digital to exploit the NEMS data operations capability

Contribute to the development of strategic direction and organisational development

Support the Directors in establishing policies, aims and objectives.

Business Transformation Responsibilities

Develop and implement comprehensive business transformation plans and strategies to align with organisational goals.

Working with our Business Improvement team, provide project management oversight and strategic guidance to ensure the successful delivery of key transformation projects, collaborating with project managers and stakeholders as needed.

Actively engage and collaborate with Clinical and Operational teams to identify and prioritise business improvement opportunities.

Track, measure, and analyse business improvement and efficiency metrics using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure measurable outcomes.

Lead and optimise NEMS data operations capability to drive evidence-based decision-making and operational excellence.

Contribute to shaping the strategic direction and fostering organisational development through innovative approaches.

Coach and mentor Operational Service Managers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
