Warwickshire Dietetic Service provides inpatient services to adults with a wide variety of nutritional needs at George Eliot Hospital, Warwick Hospital and Leamington Spa Hospital. As well as providing a service to inpatients, we also run numerous hospital and community based outpatient clinics. Some of these clinics are run independently and some are run jointly with multidisciplinary teams. We deliver community services across Warwickshire for children and adults and as part of the left shift agenda, acute and community teams work closely together.

We are looking for a leader with proven strategic and operational management, service development and clinical leadership skills to continue to drive forward the service.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible to the operational management and delivery of an agreed area of service

To assist and deputise for the Dietetic Service Manager in the operational management and delivery of service objectives.

To contribute to the redesign of the Warwickshire Dietetic Service as required.

To lead or contribute to specific projects in line with strategic and business plans

To ensure the Warwickshire Dietetic Service Clinical Governance requirements are achieved and reported as per Trust processes

To be responsible for effective line management of the dietitians and assistant practitioners in an agreed area of the service To assist in delivering safe, efficient and effective Dietetic Services across Warwickshire

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Managerial

To be responsible for providing professional leadership and comply with BDA Code of professional conduct, HCPC Standards of Proficiency and HCPC Standards of conduct, performance and ethics and ensure all staff are aware of these

Deputise for dietetic manager and attend trust wide meetings in the absence of the dietetic manager

Ensure commissioning requirements in the agreed area of the service are delivered and reported

Ensure admin procedures relating to the agreed area of work are completed in a timely manner

To authorise expenditure against a delegated budget.

To ensure best use of staff, resources and equipment within budget constraints

To recruit and induct Registered Dietitians and Assistant Practitioners in the agreed area of the service and in other teams as required

To lead on the development and delivery of the agreed area of service across Warwickshire

To be responsible for the day to day management of the staff in the agreed area of service including monitoring absence, performance, arranging cover and initial investigation of incidents and complaints

To be responsible for carrying out personal development reviews for staff in the agreed area of service

To authorise stock and non-stock equipment in line with the Trust financial instructions and authorised budgetary limit

Clinical

To develop and deliver a clinical service in an agreed clinical area

To provide cover for colleagues during periods of planned and unplanned leave.

Stock Control

To ensure equipment and resources are available in the agreed area of service and is well maintained and replaced as required

To ensure adequate stocks of patient literature are maintained and order as required

Training and Education

To facilitate the identification of training needs of staff through appraisal and assist in ensuring the training needs analysis for the service is completed annually

To provide training, education & support for new staff in the agreed speciality and for staff wishing to gain experience in the speciality

To assist on the introduction of dietetic apprentices in South Warwickshire Foundation Trust

Actively participate in keeping up to date, attend relevant learning activities and Trust mandatory and statutory training

Clinical Governance

To assist in ensuring the department’s clinical governance agenda is met and reported according to Trust standards, taking a lead on agreed areas from the following

  • Clinical and professional audits
  • Patient experience survey’s, questionnaires and patient stories
  • Clinical guidelines, pathways and procedures
  • Risk assessments
  • Investigate clinical incidents and complaints
  • Research opportunities

Plan and organises own workload and evaluate own practice

Actively participate in keeping up to date, attend relevant learning activities, mandatory and statutory training and participate in the Personal Development Review process working to achieve agreed set objectives.

Follow department and trust clinical guidelines, policies and procedures
