Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and capable Deputy Clinical Manager to join our teams at Beckenham Beacon Urgent Treatment Centre and Princess Royal University Hospital in South London. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced clinician to support the UTC Clinical Manager in leading the clinical team and delivering consistently high standards of safe, patient-centred care.

The successful applicant will be a registered Nurse or Paramedic with experience and knowledge of minor illness and minor injury presentations gained in urgent care, an emergency department or primary care. They will be an independent prescriber with the clinical expertise, professional judgement and leadership skills needed to contribute effectively to the service.

Main duties of the job

Working closely with the UTC leadership team, the post holder will support the development of clinical pathways, agreed improvement projects and delegated management activity. They will contribute to the induction, training, mentoring and development of new and existing staff, work regular clinical hours and provide visible leadership by example. The role includes weekend and bank-holiday working and may require additional support during periods of high demand.

The successful applicant must be able to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team and autonomously when completing delegated responsibilities. They will demonstrate strong communication, organisation and prioritisation skills and a clear commitment to professional accountability and patient safety.

Role requirements

  • Registered Nurse or Paramedic with current NMC or HCPC registration and no restrictions on practice.
  • Working towards a Master's qualification, with at least a postgraduate certificate at Level 7 in Advanced Practice or equivalent.
  • At least four years' full-time post-registration experience, ideally including experience in a senior role.
  • At least one year's experience as an autonomous practitioner in a UTC, emergency department or primary care setting.
  • Independent prescribing qualification.
  • Minor illness and/or minor injury qualification at Level 6 or 7.
  • Competence in X-ray interpretation; Red Dot and IR(ME)R training or an equivalent recognised qualification is desirable.
  • Mentoring, supervision or practice-education qualification and experience.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Experience of working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including active listening.
  • A clear understanding of professional responsibility and accountability.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage and prioritise workload.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance and the right to work in the UK.
