We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and highly motivated Deputy Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Breast Reconstruction to join our specialist multidisciplinary team in a part-time role. This is a predominantly outpatient-based role, providing expert nursing care and support to patients throughout their breast reconstruction journey.
The successful candidate will deliver specialist education, clinical assessment, wound management, and ongoing support to patients before and after reconstructive surgery, ensuring a high standard of patient-centred care.
Working closely with the Lead CNS and multidisciplinary team, the Deputy CNS will also contribute to service development, quality improvement, and the day-to-day management of the breast reconstruction service.
Main duties of the job
The Deputy CNS will lead and manage nurse-led outpatient clinics, including specialist breast reconstruction follow-up clinics and nipple-area tattooing clinics. They will provide comprehensive patient education before surgery and ongoing support during recovery, ensuring patients have the information and reassurance needed throughout their treatment pathway.
The post holder will undertake specialist wound assessment and management for complex plastic surgery wounds, developing and reviewing individualised wound care plans while working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to optimise patient outcomes.
The successful candidate will manage a designated patient caseload, coordinating appointments, maintaining accurate clinical documentation, responding to patient enquiries via telephone and face-to-face consultations.
They will also contribute to clinical governance through participation in audits, collection and analysis of patient feedback, and implementation of quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient experience and service delivery.

- Previous post registration experience within the relevant specialty
- Experienced and competent in the management of patients within the speciality.
- Experience of teaching/ assessing/ supervising others in a clinical setting.
Skills/Knowledge

- Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients/clients and give relevant advice/information to patients and relatives.
- Good communication skills and ability to deal with sensitive information. To include dealing with distressed relatives, care of terminally ill & other challenging situations
- Demonstrates ability to influence and negotiate with others.
- An understanding of audit and research-based nursing practice.
- Knowledge of evidence-based practice.
Qualifications/Education
Essential
- RN1/ RN2/ RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality.
- Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical, managerial training and CPD
