This is an  exciting opportunity for a Band 4 Registered Dental Nurse to join the Outpatients Team, supporting our Specialised Paediatric Dental, Maxillofacial, Cleft Palate and Orthodontic Teams.

The post is based at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.

Fully registered with the General Dental Council with Personal Development Plan and CPD records.

(Hours are worked from Monday - Friday including evening clinics.)

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work predominantly within the Department of Paediatric Dentistry, Maxillofacial and Orthodontics.

  • Role model behaviours in accordance with the Trust Behavioural Framework.
  • Ensure best possible dental nursing care and practice including those with complex medical, physical and emotional needs.
  • Provide close support to dentistry, maintaining high standards of patient care and infection control.
  • Learn new skills in line with new practices, qualifications and modernisation.
  • Have commitment to continuing professional development.

Skills

Essential

  • Excellent interpersonal oral and written skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, carers and staff at all levels.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.

Experieince

Essential

  • Recent experience of working as part of a dental team.

Desirable

  • Experience of a hospital setting.

Knowledge of

  • Interest in oral health promotion.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of the NHS as it relates to dentistry.

Personal attributes

  • Empathy and compassion with all patient groups, including those with special needs.
  • A willingness to accept that flexibility is required to meet the challenging needs of the NHS.

Education & Training

Essential

  • Must be registered with the General Dental Council as a Dental Care Professional.
  • Registered Dental Nurse qualification or NVQ Level 3 in Oral Healthcare.
  • Evidence of maintaining/updating relevant continued professional development with Personal development plan in accordance with enhanced CPD guidance.

Desirable

  • Any post qualification certificate(s) in any of the following: Radiology, Sedation, Orthodontics, Oral Health.
