This post is to support UHCW and the mobile lung screening service across Warwickshire.

The post holder will be expected to travel to various site locations across Warwickshire to perform duties.

To provide support and assistance to patients and staff as required on all UHCW sites (to include Rugby St Cross and City centre as required).

To assist radiologists, radiographers and nurses with the examination and care of radiology patients, assisting with clerical procedures and image processing as required.

Main duties of the job

  • To assist patients in preparation for, and whilst undergoing, routine and specialised radiographic examinations. Establish and maintain a good communication channel with patients to support patient confidence.
  • To observe and care for patients whilst waiting for examinations and communicate any concerns to trained staff as appropriate.
  • To check patient identification and documentation in accordance with departmental protocols and clinical requests.
  • Assist Radiologists, Radiographers and Nurses in performing these examinations, attending to patients’ welfare at all times.
  • Support service delivery to co-ordinate workflow and support facilities within specialised areas.
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control at all times. Clean and perform routine operational maintenance on equipment as required, participating in the departmental Quality Assurance programme.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To be familiar with, understand and apply the principles of Radiation Safety, both nationally and locally regulated or protocol led.
  • To participate in the 'Out of Hours' rosters, in line with the departmental agreement to support full 7 day service delivery as part of contracted hours.
  • To facilitate communication between the department and all service users, patients, relatives, staff and external users, including any adherence to Trust policies, including participation in annual appraisal/review systems.
  • Communicate with patients and professional colleagues in situations that may be traumatic due to pressures of work or where the patient’s condition may be a barrier to comprehension and compliance, e.g. Claustrophobia, learning difficulties or injury traumatised.
  • To assist in the implementation of all manual and electronic information systems ensuring consistently accurate data collection and recording, in support of standard data collection, performance activity, audit and Capacity and demand analysis.
  • To assist with the practical experience of newly inducted staff.
  • Ensure “in house” stock movement, especially specialist room stocks, and linen handling according to infection control standards.
