Applications are invited for a Consultant Hepatologists at the Royal Free Hospital, London.

The Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust sites are situated in North London. There are three RFH sites; the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, Barnet General Hospital and Chase Farm Hospital.

The primary role for the appointees will be to contribute to the provision of inpatient and outpatient hepatology services at the Royal Free Hampstead Site, and to outpatient hepatology clinics at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospital. Experience in managing patients with decompensated cirrhosis and portal hypertension is essential. A special interest in immune liver disease and in supporting young adults transitioning from paediatric to adult services is highly desirable. The appointees will participate in hepatology on call rota and may participate in the out of hours GI bleed on call rota.

There will be additional responsibility for post graduate education therefore experience in medical education is essential. Additional sub-specialist interests are desirable and can be negotiated according to the experience of the appointee and needs of the department.

Main duties of the job

• Clinical responsibilities – In-patient and out-patient management of general hepatology, endoscopy, emergency GI bleeding
• Responsibility for policy and service development – Development of Hepatology Clinical Pathway Groups in line with the strategy of the Clinical Lead, Service Directors and Trust.
• Responsibility for clinical governance – working to achieve IQILS accreditation and ensure compliance with CQC framework
• Responsibility for financial and physical resources (if appropriate)
• Responsibility for leading and managing – Hepatology team team in association with consultant colleagues
• Responsibility for information resources – including patient databases
• Responsibility for teaching and training – undergraduates, gastroenterology and hepatology specialty trainees, junior clinical fellows and foundation trainees and the multidisciplinary workforce.
• Responsibility for research and audit – in line with Trust requirements.

The Unit has an excellent reputation for clinical research and it is highly desirable for the appointees to have interest and experience in basic or clinical research, including successful completion of a research degree. There is a commitment to collaborative working between clinical and academic medicine integrating with the UCL Institute for Liver and Digestive Health. An interest in research will be encouraged.
