We are delighted to be advertising a post for a Consultant Radiologist at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, specialising in Breast imaging. The post-holder will support the delivery of specialist imaging services, including cancer and non-cancer work. The role will also include service commitment to the diagnostic acute radiology service at UCLH.
This is a NHS consultant post within Department of Radiology in the Imaging Division of the Surgery and Cancer Clinical Board.
The post carries a requirement for general/emergency diagnostic radiology.
The post-holder must have sub-specialty experience in Breast radiology, as well as skills and experience in general radiology and oncology imaging to support the delivery of services at UCH. The Radiology Department is very active in both teaching and clinical innovation, and the post-holder would be expected to participate in these.
Applicants should possess the FRCR or equivalent and be on the specialist register or within 6 months of obtaining their CCST.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of this post are as follows:
The appointee will contribute to a comprehensive and high-quality breast imaging service, delivering the full spectrum of diagnostic and interventional breast radiology. This includes mammography, ultrasound, breast MRI, and image-guided procedures such as biopsy (including vacuum assisted) and localisation techniques. Knowledge and experience of MRI-guided biopsy techniques would be an advantage to potential candidates.
The post-holder will play a central role in supporting the surgical and oncological breast services, with active participation in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and diagnostic pathways.
In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to the general diagnostic radiology service, including participation in the daytime and on-call acute radiology rota, with appropriate supervision of resident doctors.
The role includes opportunities to contribute to service development within breast radiology, working alongside clinical leads to enhance and evolve the service. The appointee will also be expected to participate in teaching, training, audit, and quality improvement activities.

Experience
Essential
- At least one year of recognised sub-specialty training in Breast Imaging.
- Demonstrable experience in general, acute and oncology imaging.
Communication
Essential
- Ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen and negotiate with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies.
Skills and Abilities
Essential
- Demonstrable expertise in breast imaging including mammography, MRI and ultrasound, and related breast interventional procedures
- Broad reporting ability in acute and general diagnostic imaging.
- General Oncology reporting skills.
Desirable
- Experience in advanced breast biopsy techniques including MRI-guided
Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential
- Eligible for full GMC registration by date of appointment and entry on the specialist register (or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of AAC).
- FRCR (UK) or appropriate specialist qualification.
- Relevant CCT or equivalent [equivalence must be confirmed by PMETB/GMC by date of GMC].
