We are seeking to recruit a consultant psychiatrist with a wealth of experience in general adult psychiatry mainly in the community that has the capacity to manage a variety of cases using Mental Health Act 1983 and Mental Capacity Act 2005 as appropriate. The post holder must be able to engage in professional training and development and in leadership to improve service delivery to contribute meaningfully to system growth and development.
You will need to hold full registration with the GMC and a licence to practice and obtained inclusion on the Specialist Register or be within six months of the award of a CCST in General Psychiatry, or eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register.
Main duties of the job
You will provide clinical and management leadership and expert medical assessment, diagnosis, management, and effective service delivery to a variety of service users with severe, complex and enduring mental disorders.
You will also provide expert advice and guidance to team members in the articulation of appropriate management plan, and in assessment and management of risks. Whilst providing leadership and clinical directions in MDT meetings and to team members your focus will ensure high-quality recovery service delivery to service users.
There will be liaison with other services/teams and agencies involved in patients’ care, including CMHTs, inpatients, HTT, GPs, and social services.
You will be required to ensure appropriate and timeous utilisation of the MHA, MCA, and other legal frameworks in the assessment and management of patients in the community, including the management of patients on CTO.

The postholder will take a collaborative approach with GPs, NMHTs as appropriate to manage patient flow in the system in support of the community transformation model. There are opportunities to participate in service developments and in quality improvement activities
You will also ensure appropriate supervision to trainees and other clinicians in the team for improvement and effectiveness in the discharge of their clinical duties and participate / support PGME programmes in training resident doctors and medical students

- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
- Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act (1983)
- MRCPsych or equivalent
- Obtained inclusion on the Specialist Register; or within six months of the award of a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in General Adult Psychiatry; or eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register
- Commitment to personal programme of Continuing Professional Development.
- Substantial experience of psychiatry, including working with people suffering from severe mental illness, preferably in a community setting
- Experience of providing psychological and/or social interventions
- Experience of teaching and training at an undergraduate/postgraduate level
- Commitment to clinical audit within multi-disciplinary team.
- Evidence of potential for effective leadership.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work creatively within multi-disciplinary team.
- Demonstrable interest in the provision of gender sensitive mental health service
- Willingness to be involved in management of service.
- Able to participate in Consultant on-call rota.
- Able to travel
Desirable
- Additional qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or another relevant field
- Broad clinical training including both inpatient and community service
- Experience serving a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic population
- Experience of stakeholder engagement in service delivery
- Experience of contributing to or completion of a service improvement project
- Completed clinically relevant audit projects
