Job overview

Consultant post in Respiratory Medicine

The appointment is for two full-time, substantive, consultant physicians within respiratory medicine. These are two new posts and will be in addition to our five current substantive consultants. We are looking for two dynamic and enthusiastic colleagues to join our busy respiratory department at West Middlesex. The post holders will deliver respiratory outpatient clinics and contribute to the rotating respiratory ward consultant model, with plenty of scope to develop their own sub speciality interest and share the interventional work. Applications are invited from Full time, Part time and Job Share applicants. If a person is appointed as a part-time or job share position modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the trust in consultation with consultant colleagues. The post holder will work with the existing consultants to develop services in respiratory medicine. Interested applicants are encouraged to contact the department to learn more about the posts and our trust.

Main duties of the job

Please refer to the chart below for an indicative job plan denoting the allocation of programmed activities – please note that this is suggested only, and is subject to confirmation with the post-holder. There is scope for tailoring the job plan to the sub speciality interests of the successful applicant. We would welcome candidates to reach out to the department to discuss the role if considering applying.

The job plan may be subject to change in the future, subject to the needs of the service. This would be via consultation with the post-holder.

The new post holder will share the respiratory ward and in-reach referrals in a rolling rota along with four other respiratory consultants with blocks of time on and off the ward. This will be reflected in any job plan before the post commences.

The post-holder will have a job plan detailing all duties, which will be agreed between the consultant, Service / Clinical Director for Medicine and the General Manager for medicine. The job plans will link into the team job plans for the Respiratory team. Job plans are agreed and reviewed annually. An interim job plan can be requested by either party, if necessary. If it is not possible to agree a job plan, either following appointment or at annual review, a mediation procedure and an appeal procedure are available, as laid out in the terms and conditions of service
