Job overview

An opportunity has arisen at University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust for an Interventional Neuroradiology (INR) Consultant. This is a full time (10 PA) post, but we can accommodate applicants who wish to work on part-time contracts.

The primary duties of the posts will be to provide specialist INR cover, participate in the INR on call rota and general support within the department including reporting sessions and participation in multi-disciplinary meetings (MDTs). The department is seeking flexible candidates who will support and meet service needs.

Main duties of the job

Main Aims and Objectives of the Post

  • To join a team of two INRs to support and expand the INR service to patients in Coventry, Rugby and the surrounding districts. This will include ensuring that all appropriate waiting lists and waiting times are adhered to, that services are provided in an effective and efficient manner and that the principles of risk management and clinical governance are maintained at all times.
  • To participate in a 1:4 INR on call service (currently limited to extended weekday on call, with a plan to extend to weekend work in due course).
  • To support multi-disciplinary team meetings.
  • To provide acute diagnostic neuroradiology cover during working hours.
  • To develop an academic and research interest (individuals with specific specialist skills are welcome to add those to the Trust’s imaging scope)

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical

To cover annual and professional leave the Department operates a flexible rota. This means that on occasions the radiologists will be asked to cover acute or emergency lists in place of normal timetabled work.

The post holder will be expected to hold appropriate Royal College of Radiology qualifications or equivalent.

In addition to:

  • Provide and develop further with clinical colleagues the Interventional and diagnostic neuroradiology specialist service, in line with the expectations of the Department and Trust.
  • Provide a consultation and advisory service to other clinical colleagues in other specialties within the Trust and Primary Care.
  • Take responsibility for the professional supervision and development of trainee doctors within the specialty.
  • Develop and maintain good communications with General Practitioners and appropriate external agencies.
  • Demonstrate a firm involvement in Clinical Governance, Risk Management and Clinical Audit – this will include the development and maintenance of appropriate systems and practices to ensure continued safe clinical practice.
  • Ensure own practice is up to date; this will include taking responsibility for own Clinical Professional Development and participating in the Trust’s Performance and Annual Appraisal system and GMC revalidation.
  • Share responsibility for data protection arising out of the use of computers.
  • Comply with all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures.

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive clinical training and experience in interventional and diagnostic neuroradiology. • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that of a UK INR trainee. • Prior experience of on call rota. • Ability to supervise and report the full scope of neuro CT and MRI imaging. • Thorough and detailed knowledge of medical audit, medical education, current clinical and medical best practice. • Understanding of the Clinical Governance process. • Competent in basic information technology.

Desirable

  • Experience of effective management of staff at a senior level. • Ability to organise and manage out-patient priorities, waiting times/lists. • Further skills in information technology.
