Job summary
At Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, we have a comprehensive stroke centre, and we are expanding our mechanical thrombectomy service to provide 24/7 care for the region. Dynamic colleagues are required to fill these new posts within the anaesthetic department at Leeds General Infirmary.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant should possess FRCA (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register. Applicants should have established skills in general adult anaesthesia, with experience providing anaesthesia at remote sites, such as an interventional radiology suite, preferably in Neuro-anaesthesia. Additional skills and experience in obstetric anaesthesia would be welcomed. Candidates are expected to contribute to the wider departmental service provision, such as pre-assessment and major trauma. Excellent communication and teamwork skills, along with a strong commitment to teaching and service development, are essential. The post-holder will participate in the undergraduate teaching programme for the School of Medicine at the University of Leeds. The appointee, along with colleagues, will contribute to postgraduate teaching, including the Resident Doctors in Anaesthesia teaching programme within the Yorkshire Deanery.

Why you should join our Team
Employing over 270 Consultant Anaesthetists, each with their own subspecialty interest, the Department of Anaesthesia is based across two sites at St James’ Hospital and the Leeds General Infirmary. Shared secretarial assistance is also provided, as is shared office accommodation and personal computer access. Specialist/Senior Registrars are attached to the department as part of their training. Weekly tutorials take place on weekly at 2 pm on a rolling basis. Weekly departmental meetings take place on Thursday lunchtimes at LGI or St James. Regular departmental meetings are held on Fridays in the anaesthetic department at the LGI and the Trust’s monthly rolling audit programme is in place; half day on both sides of the city for whole department and separate subspecialities.
