Job overview
We are looking to appoint up to 3 FTE Consultant Histopathologists with an interest in with an interest in Dermatopathology, Gynae, Uropathology & Haematopathology. Any other areas of subspecialist practice can be accommodated. We envisage the posts will be primarily based at Sheffield but there may be to support to services at Doncaster or Rotherham pending our laboratory consolidation.
We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.
Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.
Main duties of the job
The Consultant staff of the Histopathology Department are organised into subspecialist reporting teams. Our consultants typically practice in 1 – 3 subspecialist areas of practice in line with their interests and with the needs of the department. Direct Clinical Care (DCC) work includes appropriate dissection, histology and cytology reporting, and MDT preparation and delivery.
SYB Histopathology delivers laboratory and reporting activity within the SYB Pathology Service network, and beyond, and increases in such activity are anticipated as well as closer operational collaboration between the different SYB sites. Reporting work is distributed across the relevant subspecialist teams and treated uniformly regardless of the source.

Qualifications
Essential
- Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GMC with a licence to practise.
- Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview. If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.

Clinical Experience
Essential
- Ability to work as an independent practitioner in Histopathology.
- Possess broad clinical experience in the general aspects of the post.
- Willingness to use voice recognition for report dictation and adopt other appropriate workflow technologies
Desirable
- Willingness and/or training to work using on-screen digital pathology
- Subspecialty interest commensurate with the needs of the service.
