Job overview

The Gynaecological Oncology Department is looking for a full-time permanent Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist at Guy's & St. Thomas’ South-East London Cancer Centre. The post holder will be expected to provide specialist Gynaecological Oncology services at Guy’s and St Thomas’ sites.

This post will support the four existing full-time Gynaecological Oncology consultants. The requirements are to provide direct clinical care for Gynaecological Oncology patients diagnosed locally and those referred from the South East London Cancer Network. The post holder will also take part in running cancer diagnostic services and participate in teaching and research activities.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a first-class team in an active and progressive central London teaching hospital environment. Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital is a renowned cancer centre both nationally and internationally and a centre of excellence in robotic and cancer surgery. The department is linked to the King’s College University and London & KSS deanery for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching respectively.

The applicant must be on the GMC specialist register as a Sub-Specialist in Gynaecological oncology. The post holder should have experience in advanced robotic surgery in Gynaecological Oncology.

Main duties of the job

This job is anticipated to contain 10 Programmed Activities per week on average to be carried out on Guy’s & St Thomas’ sites and includes on-call commitments.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Proposed Job Plan

Your job plan is anticipated to contain 10 Programmed Activities per week on average to be carried out on Guy’s & St Thomas’ sites and includes on-call commitments. This is an outline programme and you will be expected to discuss and agree a detailed job plan including your personal and professional objectives with your Clinical Lead and Clinical Director within 3 months of your start date. The Job plan might be altered in future to meet service requirements and include weekend work.

GO MDT: Gynaecological Oncology Multi-Disciplinary Team Meeting

Direct Clinical Care Activities: These activities include ward rounds, outpatient clinics, theatre sessions and MDM attendance. See timetable.

Other Programmed Activities: These include job planning, appraisals, governance, audit, teaching and administration.

Regular meetings: These include consultant meetings, audit, morbidity & mortality meetings and teaching sessions.

Administrative Support: The postholder will have full-time administrative support with shared Patient Pathway Coordinators.

Clinical Skills

Essential

  • A commitment to and evidence of multidisciplinary practice
  • Skills in treating and managing all gynaecological cancers referred to cancer centre in UK
  • Ability to work conjointly with other specialties for radical surgery
  • Skills in managing two week-wait cancer diagnostic clinics. Ability to perform outpatient ambulatory diagnostic and therapeutic hysteroscopy
  • A team approach to care and service management, including appreciation of nursing and therapy roles.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively with colleagues; clinical and non-clinical, patients and their carers/relatives.
  • Ability to manage Gynaecological Emergencies

Desirable

  • Training in Sentinel Lymph node mapping for Gynaecological cancers

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • RCOG Accredited Subspecialty training in Gynaecological Oncology
  • Clinical core training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT
  • BSCCP Accreditation
  • Experience in Diagnostic procedures including Outpatient Operative Hysteroscopic procedures, LLETZ, Cervical & Vulval biopsy

Desirable

  • Experience in Robotic surgery in Gynaecological Oncology
  • Experience in Benign laparoscopic and complex Gynaecological Surgery
  • Exposure to ultra-radical surgery in Gynaecological Oncology

Audit Management & IT

Essential

  • Understanding of principles of audit and its use to drive service improvement
  • Experience of service innovation and/or development

Desirable

  • Experience of managing clinical governance targets e.g. CNST
  • Experience of achieving quality targets e.g. CQIN, KC65

Leadership / Management skills
