Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SABP) is seeking a highly experienced Practitioner Psychologist to undertake the role of Consultant Psychologist (Clinical/Counselling) to provide strategic, clinical and professional leadership across our Child and Young People’s Services (CYPS) as CYPS Professional Lead for Psychology.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape service development and promote excellence in psychological practice. The post will have a clinical component, working with children and young people with complex mental health needs.

Based at the Trust Headquarters in Leatherhead with travel across Surrey required and close working with multidisciplinary teams, service leads and the Associate Director of Therapies.

Main duties of the job

To work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary colleagues, service leads and the Associate Director of Therapies to develop and continuously review the strategy for the delivery of a full range of psychological services and the development of psychological mindedness across all  CYPS .

To lead and/or contribute to service improvements, change programmes and business developments as required.

To plan and deliver expert clinical interventions, supervision, consultation and training.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of clinical work  and care.
  • To maintain high standards of care in all areas of practice in accordance with the HCPC Code of Conduct, professional guidelines and Trust Policies and Procedures.
  • To act within the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act (2005).
  • To be aware of and implement Safeguarding Adult and Child Protection Policies, Procedures and legislation.
  • Work in collaboration with senior colleagues, to lead on Trust-wide projects and development initiatives that support the organisation’s strategic direction and enhance service delivery.
  • To play a key role in identifying and developing opportunities for psychology to contribute to the Trust delivering its clinical strategy and ICS’s in delivering local plans.
  • To ensure that the healthcare needs of people coming under the care of the service are communicated to service commissioners and providers.
  • Working in partnership with acute and primary care services and other healthcare providers to improve access to psychological therapies
  • To ensure that all psychology staff receive regular, high-quality supervision and Individual performance review/appraisals.
  • To lead on appropriate staff recruitment within the Psychology service and contribute to wider strategic plans regarding psychology recruitment.
  • To act as supervisor/teacher in teaching, facilitating and supporting pre- registration students and junior personnel and to participate in the audit of educational placements.
  • To take a lead role in identifying and managing clinical audit and research opportunities within the service, maintaining current knowledge of research findings and development within the relevant area of service.
  • To influence and develop team cultures that support and encourage innovation, creativity, partnership working and curiosity.
  • To be part of the division’s on-call manager rota
