A Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist is required for City & Hackney Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. These clinical sessions are located within our Adolescent Mental Health Team (8 sessions). This is a long established consultant post, with the vacancy arising due to the previous post holder leaving the role
The post-holder would be expected to provide Consultant input and clinical leadership to the Adolescent Mental Health Pathway four days per week as well as contribute to the assessment clinic and the consultant duty rota. The role of the Consultant is to provide psychiatric assessment and treatment, contribute a psychiatric perspective, provide senior clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team, offer consultation to other professionals and agencies and facilitate the development of the team and wider service
You will join 4 (3.2 WTE) other Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrists based in C&H CAMHS. In addition to the above clinical duties, clinical supervision, teaching, training and research, the service takes part in the Trust’s active and extensive Healthcare Governance and Quality Improvement agenda.
Main duties of the job
The AMHT is based at Homerton Row Site and provides assessment and treatment to City & Hackney Adolescents presenting with psychosis and severe mental illness, and those requiring more intensive support for serious mental health difficulties associated with risk to self. The role of the consultant is to provide psychiatric assessment and treatment where appropriate, contribute a psychiatric perspective, provide senior clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team, offer consultation to other professionals and agencies and facilitate the development of the team and wider service.
The team, is clinically led by the CTL and the consultant psychiatrist together with an 8b clinician. It is a small cohesive team comprising of clinical psychology, family therapy, nursing, CAMHS Practitioner and an OT who has a joint role leading on internal duty system, as well as a Specialist Registrar from the GOSH/RLH rotation and an F2 doctor from HUH.
The Team caseload is around 45 – 50 cases including approximately 10 Early Intervention for Psychosis young people.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The team model includes joint working between Psychiatry and allocated care-coordinator as well as individual working with young people and their families to provide developmentally informed evidence-based treatments. The consultant will have a small caseload of around 15 patients as well as providing psychiatric assessments of other young people as required.
Liaison with Tier 4 inpatient services, CAMHS extended crisis service (CECS) and the developing Home Treatment Team (HTT) is a key expectation of the role, as are relationships with the Homerton Hospital, and Children’s Social Care. The AMHT plays a key role in the service with consultation to other pathways and timely intervention for high risk young people requiring more intensive care.
The post holder will also be expected to see on average one new routine assessment per week in the assessment clinic.
