We are seeking an enthusiastic Consultant Haematologist to join the Children and Young People’s Cancer Service (CYPCS) and the adult transplant team. This role offers a unique opportunity to specialise in the care of teenagers and young adults with non-malignant blood disorders, including haemoglobinopathies and immunodeficiency.

The post holder will contribute to the delivery of allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), CAR T-cell therapies, and emerging gene-editing treatments for adult patients with sickle cell disease and transfusion-dependent thalassaemia. They will work closely with the existing team of six adolescent haematologists within CYPCS, collaborating across adolescent and adult services to provide high-quality, integrated care.

The role will include clinical responsibilities within both the CYPCS haematology service and the adult bone marrow transplant (BMT) service.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to join the CYPCS adolescent haematology team and play a key role in delivering allogeneic transplant and gene-editing therapies across adolescent and adult services.

Working with patients with sickle cell disease, transfusion-dependent thalassaemia and inborn errors of immunity, the post holder will contribute to a dynamic service spanning red cell, adolescent transplant, BMT and diagnostic clinics.

The role offers the chance to work closely with national, Haemoglobinopathy coordinating centre, Great Ormond Street, Inborn errors of immunity and local multidisciplinary teams to identify suitable patients, secure approvals and guide patients through assessment and work-up. The post holder will undertake an average of two to three clinics per week, including adult BMT follow-up, new patient consent, red cell therapy, adolescent BMT and non-malignant diagnostic clinics. On-call duties include four weeks per year for adolescent haematology and four weeks per year on the adult HSCT and CAR-T attending rota, within an 8 Programmed Activity job plan based at UCLH sites. The successful candidate will be supported to develop a specialist interest in immunodeficiency and cutting-edge therapies for red cell disorders, making this a distinctive opportunity to shape care in an evolving field.
