Working in the rural and picturesque North Norfolk area our team delivers services for patients in their own homes. For this reason a valid driving licence and access to a vehicle which is insured for work purposes is essential.

Main duties of the job

  • Collection of blood samples from patients in accordance with agreed procedures.
  • To ensure blood samples taken from patients are correctly identified by using the labels provided on the ICE forms, or clearly writing on the label in line with requesting services guidelines as appropriate.
  • To ensure any capillary blood sampling for International Normalized Ratio (INR) is carried out in accordance with Norfolk Community Health & Care standard operating procedures.
  • To undertake ECG's in accordance with policy.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To ensure that where blood samples need to be sent off for analysis, they are delivered to the nearest site in time for that day’s collection.
  • To report any concerns with regard to patients or colleagues to the senior registered nurse for that area.
  • To work with all health care professionals, and statutory/non statutory agencies to provide a seamless, integrated service to our service users.
  • Establishing good working relationships with all Trust staff.
  • To print off own blood requests using the ICE system.

This role is key to the on-going development of the locality. You will eventually be working in an autonomous capacity seeing a group delegated patients in their own homes.  Current experience working in a community setting would be beneficial but is not essential.

Your role will be key to integrated working within the community team which consists of community nurses, community matrons, therapists, assistant practitioners, other health care assistants and other phlebotomists.  You must demonstrate that you can undertake appropriate assessment of patients in their own home, manage care plans and deliver treatment within a multi-disciplinary team.

IT skills will be essential within this role. Training in IT systems for this role will be undertaken as part of a comprehensive induction programme.  You will be working in a team setting and would be expected to feedback any concerns to senior members of the team and be an effective team player.
