Job overview
Working under the supervision of the Clinical Nurse Specialist and Advanced Nurse Practitioner team, the post holder will provide clinical and pathway coordination support within the nurse-led Urology Diagnostics and Active Surveillance Service.
The role combines direct patient care with pathway management, supporting patients throughout their diagnostic journey and acting as a key point of contact for patients, carers and the multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will play a key role in the quality assurance of suspected urological cancer referrals. This will include reviewing referrals to ensure all required clinical information is available prior to clinical triage, liaising with GP practices and other external providers to obtain missing information, and working across multiple IT systems to support the accurate and timely booking of investigations and appointments. In addition, the post holder will support pathway coordination and cancer tracking processes to ensure patients progress efficiently through the diagnostic and treatment pathway. This will involve close liaison with the clinical team, Cancer Services and Patient Pathway Coordinators to support timely decision-making, minimise delays and help ensure compliance with national cancer waiting time standards.
A key element of the role will be to support the implementation, coordination and ongoing monitoring of the QUIC pathway. The post holder will help ensure that the operational processes underpinning the pathway are functioning effectively, that agreed milestones are met, and that the service continues to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care. This will include supporting administrative processes, monitoring pathway activity, identifying potential delays or issues, and escalating concerns appropriately.
