Clinical Lead Therapist - Orthopaedic Oncology Service

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist to join the nationally recognised Orthopaedic Oncology Service at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital.

As Clinical Lead Therapist, you will provide expert rehabilitation for patients with highly complex orthopaedic oncology conditions, including primary bone and soft tissue sarcoma, metastatic bone disease and metastatic spinal cord compression. You will work closely with surgeons, oncologists, nursing colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver outstanding patient care and support the ongoing development of the service.

This role combines clinical practice with leadership, education, service development, quality improvement and research.

• Significant experience in orthopaedic and/or oncology rehabilitation.
• Advanced assessment, clinical reasoning and decision-making skills.
• Experience of leadership, staff development and supervision.
• A passion for service improvement and evidence-based practice.
• Excellent communication and multidisciplinary working skills.

Main duties of the job

• To be a Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy clinical expert in the management of patients with complex orthopaedic oncology conditions for the therapy department at RNOH and provide expert clinical intervention for patients, developing extended scope of practice as required.
• To work with orthopaedic oncology, plastics & spinal surgeons and others to ensure a high quality, effective and efficient service to patients referred to tertiary hospital care, or treated as an inpatient based on advanced theoretical and practical knowledge
• To be responsible for clinical leadership and service development of the relevant specialist therapy service at RNOH in partnership with trust, therapies and orthopaedic-oncology strategy
• To use expert Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy knowledge and advanced clinical reasoning skills to provide highly specialist support and advice to the team, the appropriate MDT and other staff, and to manage own caseload of patients with highly complex conditions as an autonomous practitioner
• The post holder will provide a highly specialised source of expertise in the management of primary bone & soft tissue sarcoma, benign aggressive musculoskeletal tumours, metastatic bone disease (MBD), metastatic spinal cord compression (MSCC) to patients, therapist staff and other registered and non-registered healthcare professionals, GP’s and Medical and Surgical Consultants.
