Main duties of the job

This Clinical Fellow is at Specialist Registrar (ST3+) Level is of 12 months duration with the possibility of extension, working in Thoracic Surgery at Glenfield Hospital.

You will work as an integral member of a dynamic team – with opportunity to contribute to the full spectrum of the patient pathway, including perioperative care, outpatient clinics (some at peripheral hospitals), multidisciplinary team meetings, and operating lists; and covering a 1 in 7 non-resident on-call rota.

The successful candidate will be supported to meet their own professional-development commensurate to their experience ad career targets, alongside service needs.

Person specification

Teaching

Essential

  • Able to teach and support junior colleagues

Desirable

  • Experience and enthusiasm for teaching; including at undergraduate and postgraduate leve

Audit & Research

Essential

  • An understanding of the principles of clinical audit.
  • An understanding of research principles and evidence-based practice.

Desirable

  • Practical experience of participation in clinical audit or research projects
  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) or similar courses. Presentations or publications resulting from original work.

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 2-years postgraduate surgical experience, with 1-year of cardiothoracic surgery.
  • Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement.

Desirable

  • Previous experience at Specialist Registrar level in Thoracic Surgery
  • Operative experience (supervised) in cardiothoracic surgery

Communication Skills

Essential

  • Able to work within a multidisciplinary team, and to delegate appropriately

Planning and Organisation

Essential

  • Ability to manage own time and workload effectively
  • Administrative skills, with the ability to complete work on time and to deadlines

Desirable

  • Ability to plan strategically. Ability to contribute to local policy.
  • Ability to lead others and deliver change.

Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
  • IELTS score greater than 7.5

Desirable

  • MRCS or equivalent
  • Postgraduate qualifications or higher degrees
