The Children's Clinical Research Facility

The Children's Clinical Research Facility (CCRF) forms part of the Children's Hospital, based at The Royal London Hospital, but working across other Barts Health hospitals, particularly Newham and Whipps Cross University Hospitals.

Key objectives of the CCRF are to:

• Support experimental medicine research in children, including the timely and efficient recruitment for, and completion of, commercial and non-commerical studies
• Utilise the world class facilities provided by the CCRF to launch novel research areas in the diagnosis and treatment of common and rare diseases of childhood, with our partners in the acute sector, primary care, including neighbouring centres of excellence and commercial partners
• Ensure the quality and safety of our children’s research
• Increase our capacity for and expertise in experimental medicine, through education, training and co-development with industry.

In addition to approving and overseeing the delivery of children’s research across Barts Health hospital sites, the CCRF Director will support the group wide Children's strategy to address the existing and future challenges facing paediatric care at Barts Health.

Main duties of the job

Main duties, responsibilities and results areas

• Support the growth and development of the CRF by:
• Developing and supporting grant applications to major funders of clinical research, including NIHR for academic-led studies, where Barts Health is the lead site
• Working with commercial partners to obtain investment funds to support the strategic aims of the CRF and CCRFs across all of our sites and our partner’s collaborative objectives, focusing on children’s research.
• Developing partnership working relationships with our NIHR Regional Research Delivery Network to secure delivery support funding for future NIHR portfolio activity, at Barts Health and across North East London.
• Developing the role of the CCRF within the wider context of population health and applied research for and with children, carers and families, including efforts to reduce health inequalities across our local populations
• Working with the CRF Director of Operations and the Divisional Director of Operations for the Children’s Hospital, to construct and manage Children’s CRF budgets.
• Engaging with patients, children and young people, carers and families, to ensure that patient voice is heard and lived experience shapes our research priorities and the design of our research projects.
