This post offers an exciting opportunity to work in the Pain Management Centre within the National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery at University College London NHS Foundation Trust.
The post holder will work alongside other clinical/counselling psychologists, physiotherapists, nursing, medical and administrative colleagues within a large, vibrant and supportive multidisciplinary team to improve the quality of life of individuals experiencing persistent pain.

Experience of working with people with persistent pain is essential. Supervision is provided by a Senior Clinical Psychologist.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic clinical or counselling psychologist with well-developed skills in engaging people, communication and team working. The ability to develop patient-centred treatment plans is essential as is the capacity to respond adaptively to feedback and address obstacles and setbacks creatively.
We are looking for an individual who is interested in reflective practice both in their daily clinical work and as regards continued professional development with the team.
The focus of clinical work includes engaging therapeutically with individuals to improve their quality of life in the presence of persistent pain in individual sessions, assessments and at times within Pain Management Programmes.
There are opportunities to supervise clinical/counselling psychologists and provide teaching and consultation with the multidisciplinary team and more widely in the sector.

Essential
- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including community, primary care, outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Experience of working with people with persistent abdominal pelvic pain
Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential
- Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent) as recognised by the Health and Care Professions Council
- Completion of further post-doctoral post-qualification training/professional development
- Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
Desirable
- Post doctoral training in model of psychological theory (e.g. CBT, systemic)
