To supervise and to provide comprehensive and appropriate support to all clinical coders to ensure that clinical coding is accurate, complete and timely, and that the clinical coding conforms to national standards.
To assist the Head of Clinical Coding to develop, maintain and manage a skilled efficient coding team in order to provide high quality clinical coding service within the Trust.
To be the IT lead for the department, and ensure that the department is trained on the use of all the IT equipment.
To ensure that Clinical Coding deadlines are achieved in a timely manner.
To initiate, develop and maintain the necessary processes to ensure information is made available to all clinical coders in the team.
To analyse, interpret, abstract relevant information (including complex conditions treatments and analysing the test results) and code patients’ clinical case notes using Nationally Agreed Classifications and Codes currently ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications as per Trust requirements and inputting the coded data into trusts PAS system (Patient administration system).
To ensure accurate, timely and consistent clinical coding within set national and Trust standards and targets. (This coded information is then used in ‘Payment by Results’; analytical and epidemiological studies, and for planning and information both locally and nationally.)
