Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the clinical coding team at SWBH.

You will train as a clinical coder and be fully supported through an extensive training and mentoring process to attain the National Clinical Coding Qualification (ACC).

You will analyse source documentation and accurately code clinical information relating to diagnosis and operations using the ICD-10 and OPCS 4 classifications to meet trust deadlines.

The post-holder will be expected to attend internal and external training which could involve travelling.

You will need to have:

GCSE biology grade C or above

A good understanding of Anatomy & Physiology

An understanding of medical terminology.

Excellent analytical skills

Please note that applicants without previous experience will be considered for this positon

Main duties of the job

Complete accurate clinical coding to national standards.

Complete the national  Clinical Coding Standards Course

Progress through an extensive internal training programme

Work towards attaining the NCCQ

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Analyse and interpret source documentation to abstract complex clinical information converting into accurate clinical codes using ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications.

Work with the wider clinical coding team to complete clinical coding on the hospital PAS system to meet national deadlines

Be conversant with complex national clinical coding rules and guidelines

Participate in ongoing internal training programme working towards ACC status.

Attend external training programmes as required

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of applying complex rules and regulations to descriptions written by medical staff
  • Data Entry skills
  • Ability to assimilate and interpret complex information
  • Proven Accuracy
  • Experience as a clinical coder

Qualifications

Essential

  • At least one GCSE grade C or above, preferably in Biology or related science (or equivalent).
  • Clinical Coding Standards Course completed successfully

Desirable

  • NCCQ
