We are seeking to appoint a high calibre and credible operational leader who will provide strong leadership within the Surgery Division and across the Organisation. Main duties of the job

This role will be working alongside an established leadership team and experienced clinical leaders and is a good development opportunity for an ambitious operational manager.

The Clinical Business Manager is the Accountable Officer for the Clinical Business Units (CBUs) of Acute and Specialist Surgery and is responsible, alongside the Clinical Directors, for the direct delivery of all patient services within it.  This involves ensuring that high quality services are provided to patients and that all operational and performance targets, including waiting lists, finance, HR are achieved.  The role also includes ensuring that services are continually improved and developed in line with best practice standards.

  • To lead and manage the clinical business units ensuring the best use of available resources to provide efficient and effective delivery of all services in line with best practice and quality standards
  • To support the development of the Divisional and Trust strategy through understanding the strategic contribution of the services delivered by the clinical business units.
  • To develop a culture within the clinical business units that encourages the use of initiative, individual and team responsibility and open communications.
  • To effectively manage the clinical business units staff
  • To effectively manage the clinical business units budget and finance
  • To lead the clinical business units governance arrangements
  • To manage self and workload in a way that ensures the continued support of others

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Education to Masters/Fellowship level or equivalent
  • Appropriate professional management qualification
  • Participation in continuing professional development to improve and update specialist knowledge

Desirable

  • Diploma in NHS Management or equivalent

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience of senior operational management in NHS
  • Detailed understanding and experience of the operation of acute hospital services
  • Proven ability to manage change, service activity and development within a large and complex organisation
  • Experience of managing a large budget.
  • Detailed knowledge of Clinical Governance and risk management
  • Comprehensive understanding and application of Department of Health policy

Desirable

  • Experience in a tertiary surgical service
