An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Clerk Typist to join the Trauma and Orthopaedic Department at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. This role is vital to the smooth running of a department,  you will provide comprehensive administrative and secretarial support to a multidisciplinary team, including Consultants, and Specialist Nurses.

Trauma and Orthopaedics is a very busy and dynamic place of work, providing care for patients with a variety of health care needs. Specialties include Foot & Ankle, Spinal Services, Trauma Services, Paediatrics, Sarcoma, and Hip and Knee.

Main duties of the job

If successful, you will be responsible for liaising with clinical and non-clinical professional staff for the delivery of a high standard of care. Your role will directly impact patient experience and be part of providing seamless delivery of care.

You should be self-motivated, reliable and well organised with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Be able to demonstrate administrative  experience with appropriate qualifications, be able to work efficiently and methodically with good attention to detail without direct supervision. The post holder should be flexible to the needs of the service with a positive and proactive attitude.

The post holder will be required to have excellent communication skills, be able to prioritise workload effectively with excellent attention to detail.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Working within a team of administrative staff supporting the provision of an efficient secretarial support service to Consultants, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff within their team, i.e. Specialist Nurses
  • Audio typing of letters and documents
  • Proof reading of letters
  • Deal with telephone enquires promptly.
  • Communicate with patients regarding appointments and admissions at the request of medical staff
  • Cover admin posts Trust wide as required
  • E-Referral

Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • Good IT skills to include office software packages
  • Good keyboard skills and Text Processing ability
  • Good communication skills both written verbal and telephone skills

Desirable

  • Ability to manage time effectively and work on own initiative

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Understanding of confidentiality issues

Desirable

  • Previous work experience
  • Understanding of medical terminology
  • Previous audio typing experience

Qualifications & Education

Essential

  • Minimum of 4 GCSEs, Level 9 – 4 (A* - C), including English Language, or equivalent level qualification or relevant experience
  • OCR I or equivalent qualification / experience
  • Understanding of confidentiality issues

Desirable

  • Successful completion of an intermediate (level 2) apprenticeship in Business Administration
