We are looking to recruit a Receptionist within the Paediatric A&E Department at Southport District General Hospital

Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for providing an efficient and courteous reception service within the A&E department, undertaking a full range of clerical duties. The post holder will be responsible for using a range of IT systems to ensure timely and accurate data is recorded for all patients accessing the A&E department.
The role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills together with a professional manner and empathy, using tact and diplomacy, adjusting style to meet barriers to communication and have the ability to overcome challenges in difficult situations.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Maintain a customer/ patient-focused service to patients, relatives and staff accessing the A&E department
Utilisation of the computerised system, to identify patients who have had previous contact with Southport & Ormskirk Hospitals.
Registration of patients by hospital procedure of all new attenders to the unit. Utilising the demographic checks provide by the Personal demographic service (PDS) system

- Frequent requirement to move patient case notes throughout the day
- Ability to concentrate when taking patient details at the reception desk or over the phone throughout the day
- Occasional requirement to deal with distressed patients
- Use of VDU continuously throughout the course of the shift

- Standard keyboard skills
- Ability to move case notes as required
- Ability to use own initiative when dealing with patient enquiries
- Good organisational skills
- Ability to priorities workload
- Ability to recognise and solve problems and identify when further advise is required
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to use tact and diplomacy

- Data entry experience
- Good knowledge of Administrative Systems

Qualifications

- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent experience
- European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
