Main duties of the job
Robin’s Ward is the specialist surgery ward caring for children requiring craniofacial surgery, cleft lip and palate, plastics, ENT and Neurosurgery. Kamran’s Ward cares for Children of all ages receiving treatment for cancer or haematology conditions. Bellhouse Drayson Ward provides care for children with all medical conditions specialising in Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Cardiology and Respiratory medicine as either elective or emergency admissions. Children's CDU is a 24-hour unit that accepts patients from both the Children’s Emergency Department and GP referrals. It provides care for children across a range of specialties, offering further assessment, observation, continuation of treatment, or to await results. Melanie’s Ward cares for teenage patients. The work is varied and interesting as it covers all specialities seen in Oxford including psycho-social and mental health aspects of care. Tom’s Ward is a surgical unit caring for children requiring both elective and emergency surgical treatment. The Ward specialises in Neonatal surgery, orthopaedic, spinal and general surgery. The Ambulatory care service sees patient’s in two Outpatient departments and the Children’s Daycare Ward. Children have day case surgery, investigations or treatment for a wide variety of conditions. The Ward teams and Clinical Educators are dedicated to supporting the professional advancement of every team member
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As a Band 5 Paediatric Nurse at Oxford Children’s Hospital, you will be an integral part of an established multidisciplinary team dedicated to providing high-quality care to infants, children, and young people. We are committed to a family-centered approach to care, collaborating closely with parents, carers, and the children themselves in both the planning and delivery of care.
In your role as a staff nurse, you will demonstrate autonomy in your practice and take responsibility for delivering safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care that upholds the dignity and human rights of all patients. You will work in alignment with the Trust’s policies, procedures, and guidelines, consistently adhering to the NMC Code to ensure the highest standards of professional conduct.

Essential
- Demonstrates strong clinical knowledge and competence in delivering high standards of patient-centred care within the specific area of practice
- Works effectively using own initiative while recognising and operating safely within the boundaries of the role
- Actively contributes as a collaborative and supportive team member, recognising the value of multidisciplinary working
- Accurately documents patient observations, clinical decisions, and interventions, ensuring clear and effective communication with the multidisciplinary team

- Communicates confidently and compassionately with patients, relatives, carers, and all members of the multidisciplinary team
Education, training, qualifica
Essential
- Registered Children's Nurse (Part 1. 8. 12 or 15 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council Register depending on area of practice) or National Certification in area of Practice.
- UK recognised Degree in Nursing relevant to post.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of an NMC revalidation or equivalent.

- Post-graduate qualification related to an area of practice.
