Barnet Children’s Integrated Therapies have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, innovative and self‑motivated Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our team. This is a 0.5 WTE (2.5 days per week) permanent post.
This role involves working within special schools in Barnet, supporting children and young people of school age. You will be part of a multi‑disciplinary team, working closely with Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists Therapy Assistants and school staff.
A key part of this role is contributing to the development and delivery of the targeted and universal therapy offer within special schools, with a strong focus on collaborative working with school staff to build capacity and embed therapeutic approaches.
You will have opportunities for Agile working arrangements including the provision of mobile technology and flexible working hours and arrangements.
Main duties of the job
About the Role
OTs in Barnet work as part of a dynamic Integrated Therapy Team. The wider service supports children and young people aged 0–19 across a range of settings including special schools, mainstream schools and clinics, with needs ranging from mild to complex.
Your role will include:
- Providing specialist assessment, advice and intervention in 1:1 and group settings
- Working collaboratively with school staff to embed therapeutic strategies
- Supporting the development of universal and targeted training offers for schools and parents
- Building strong relationships with education settings and families

Person specification
Knowledge
Essential
- A broad range of clinical conditions in children and young people
- Knowledge of participation focused, occupation centred approaches and how these guide decision making around sensory strategies in schools.
- Understanding of the difference between Universal, targeted and specialist service provision.
- Advanced knowledge of the current evidence base relating to specialist area – neurodivergence and sensory processing.
- Excellent knowledge of sensory based strategies and how these can be applied in school settings.
Desirable
- Knowledge and understanding of the tribunal process and EHCPs.
Experience
Essential
- Specialist skills in completing functional assessments for school aged children, analysing their independence and participation.
- Current issues in the delivery of community based services
- Experience supporting children and young people with sensory processing differences.
- Sound understanding of confidentiality
- Experience developing therapy programmes and treatment advice and upskilling those around the child to carry out.
Desirable
- Previous NHS experience
- Experience of the development and implementation of training programmes for staff/ parents.
- Experience using parent coaching approaches to upskill and empower families to implement occupational therapy strategies effectively within the home environment.
- Day to day clinical supervision and oversight to junior team members.
- Previous experience working in Special Needs schools
- Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Skills & Abilities
Essential
- Able to independently manage own clinical caseload and prioritize as required
- Demonstrates effective communication skills with all disciplines and agencies. This includes clear, concise verbal and written reporting skills
- IT skills including MS Teams, updating spreadsheets, and navigating clinical IT systems to maintain accurate and efficient records.
- Excellent presentation skills of complex information
- Ability to produce clear, concise, and clinically robust reports outlining needs, provision, and therapy recommendations.
Training and Qualification
Essential
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC Registration
- NVQ level 2 or equivalent standard of literacy and numeracy
- Evidence of continued Professional Development related to the post.
Desirable
- Clinical educator training
- Member of RCOT
