Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to provide specialist nursing care to children and young people with a wide range of complex and acute health needs across community, education and clinic settings. Based at the Battenburg Child Development Centre, you will work closely with children, young people, families and multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver high-quality, family-centred care that enables children to thrive in their own homes and communities.

No two days are the same. From supporting children with complex healthcare needs and long-term conditions, to delivering urgent care, symptom management and end-of-life care, you will play a vital role in making a real difference to the lives of children and their families.

Main duties of the job

This varied role offers the opportunity to provide specialist, family-centred nursing care to children and young people across Portsmouth and South-East Hampshire in a range of settings, including homes, schools and clinics.

You will manage a caseload of children with acute, chronic and complex healthcare needs, undertaking assessments, developing care plans and delivering high-quality nursing interventions. You will work closely with families, education providers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure children receive the right care in the right place, maximising their health, wellbeing and life opportunities.

The role includes supporting children requiring continuing care, symptom management and palliative care, as well as participating in weekend, bank holiday and on-call rotas to provide urgent and end-of-life care. You will also contribute to safeguarding, service development, audit, quality improvement and the education of families, carers and professionals.

We are looking for a nurse with excellent communication skills, a commitment to delivering safe, compassionate care and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Community or complex care experience is desirable but not essential.

In return, you will join a supportive and experienced team, with opportunities for ongoing professional development, clinical supervision and career progression, while making a real difference to the lives of children, young people and their families every day.
