Job overview

The Children in Care service is jointly commissioned by North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board and Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board. The service operates a countywide model and is responsible for delivering  the statutory health requirements as outlined in Promoting the health and well-being of looked after children (2015) and in accordance with the Children's Act (2004), Working Together to Safeguard Children (2026) and other associated documents.

Main duties of the job

The Children in Care Senior Nurse will be responsible for

  • Ø  Manage an individual clinical caseload, this will predominantly be working with children and young people aged 5-18 Ø  Be able to assess the holistic health and wellbeing needs using a trauma informed approach Ø  Foster effective working relationships with partner agencies in order to promote interagency collaboration, for the benefit of Children in Care Ø  Support the Named Nurse and Clinical Lead in meeting their statutory commissioned responsibilities. Ø  Support continuous service development.

Qualifications

Essential

  • • Current Registered Nurse
  • • BSc (Hons) Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) in either School Nursing or Health Visiting – dependant on role advertised

Desirable

  • • Dual qualification in School Nursing & Health Visiting
  • • Teaching and Assessing in Clinical Practice or equivalent
  • • Qualification in Sexual health, Mental Health

Other Requirements

Essential

  • • Ability to travel throughout Cumbria and elsewhere to represent the Directorate independently of public transport
  • • Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service

Skills and Aptitudes

Essential

  • • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • • Excellent time management skills
  • • Demonstrate the ability to plan confidently, prioritise and action appropriately.

Desirable

  • • Effective leadership and decision making skills
  • • Information management and IT skills appropriate for the role.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • • Experience working as a Health Visitor/ School Nurse (SCPHN)
  • • Experience and understanding of working within safeguarding procedures and guidelines
  • • Understanding of the determinants of health and health inequalities.
  • • Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance such as The Childrens Act (2004), Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023) and Statutory guidance Promoting the health and wellbeing of looked after children (2015) and other relevant documents

Desirable

  • • Experience in, leading and supporting staff
  • • Experience of multi-agency, including Third Sector working
