The post holder will be responsible for deputising and managing The Pine Therapy Unit in the absence of the senior sister, ensuring that the staff provides a high quality service to patients.
They will take an active role in helping to develop and maintain the chemotherapy service, ensuring an effective and safe service, with a high level of patient satisfaction and positive staff morale.
The post holder will also carry responsibility in providing provision of first full assessment and pre-chemotherapy counselling of new patients providing holistic best care through the patient’s cancer journey.
The post holder will also be an integral part of the senior nursing team, responsible for supervision of junior staff and the teaching of learners.
The post holder will act as a role model to junior staff, and be an educational resource to other members of the team.
The post holder will be expected to rotate at times to our outreach service at Gravesend. Transport is provided
Main duties of the job
To implement nurse-led clinics in line with service need and patient review; i.e Pre chemotherapy clinics.
To ensure the safe administration of cytotoxic therapies within the chemotherapy unit and in patient ward, acting as a resource for patients and staff, ensuring they receive the necessary support needed.
To be involved in the implementation and audit of cytotoxic treatments received within the Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust
To provide a leadership role model to junior staff and demonstrate expert knowledge and high standards of clinical practice.
The post holder will support in the development of chemotherapy services in the community alongside the Lead Chemotherapy and Lead Cancer Nurse as set out by the Independent cancer taskforce in Achieving World Class Cancer Outcomes 2015-2020
Act as a resource to cover 24 hour on call telephone as part of the rota, liaising with the necessary multi-disciplinary teams as and when necessary.
