We are looking for a compassionate and reliable Health Care Assistant to join our Chemotherapy Day Unit team, on a fixed term contract covering maternity leave. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your clinical skills in a specialist oncology setting, working closely with a supportive multidisciplinary team. You will play a key role in supporting patients through their treatment, taking observations, and assisting with phlebotomy, all while delivering the highest standard of person centred care. • The post holder will work as part of the chemotherapy unit, under the supervision of registered nurses, and will support them by participating in the delivery of patient care.
• The post holder will be expected to be self-motivated and use their initiative when necessary.
• Carrying out phlebotomy and completion of routine vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, blood glucose monitoring) once trained and assessed as competent and alerting registered staff promptly to any changes in a patient'scondition.
• Communicating clearly, effectively and sensitively with patients, families/carers and the wider multidisciplinary team, including providing reassurance and support to patients who may beanxious or distressed.
• Assisting qualified nurses with essential patient care and administrative tasks associated with patient care, in line with the Trust's policies and procedures.
• Maintaining accurate documentation and using electronic patient records appropriately following training.
• Working within infection control, safeguarding and confidentiality standards at all times.
• Maintaining a safe and clean environment for both patients and staff.
• Collecting chemotherapy and other medications from pharmacy.
• Delivering samples to the laboratory.
