Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Charge Nurse to join our lively and busy multi-disciplinary team at Rosemary Ward in Melbury Lodge.

Melbury Lodge has two adult acute wards- Rosemary Ward offering care for up to 13 female patients and Sherwood Ward offering care for up to 13 male patients. It also houses Snowdrop Ward (Older Person Mental Health Ward) and Clover Ward (Mother and Baby Ward). Melbury Lodge is based in Winchester and provides cares for the needs of service users across Hampshire. We provide care and treatment to service users who are experiencing an acute mental health crisis and require a period of hospital care to support their recovery.

We are looking to appoint an experienced RMN who is committed to leading and delivering high quality patient care. The successful applicant will be committed to supporting service users, their families with their recovery and staff members and will be based on Rosemary Ward.

Main duties of the job

The main responsibilities of the role are

To provide high standards of mental health care for patients by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care.

To work closely with all members of the multi professional team to ensure that patient mental health care needs are identified and managed appropriately.

To cover the Duty Senior Nurse allocation within the unit.

To lead shifts when required and direct the team to support them in providing high quality care.

To provide mental health education to patients and their carers.

To take a lead role on the role and promote good clinical practice and patient care.

Provide supervision and support staff appraisals of their allocated team members.

To complete and participate in all audits and QI projects on the ward and support team members in this.

To work collaboratively alongside patient carers and work within the triangle of care model.

Support students who rotate through the ward on placement as practice assessor to aid in learning and role modelling.

To have an extensive and well-developed knowledge of risk assessment and management and be able to implement this within the acute ward setting.

To have an in-depth, well-rounded knowledge of medication and be able to administer medication safely.

To deputise for the ward manager when required and understand the underpinning working processes and procedures for the ward.

The successful candidate must be able to work shifts.
