This role will support redesign that is underpinned by high quality, credible and internationally respected clinical advice. This would inform practise consistent with high professional standards and with our approach to Realistic Medicine.

The role will require someone who can act authoritatively as a change agent and displaying the highest professional standards, with experience of working with executive and senior managers across NHS Scotland.

For informal discussions regarding this post please contact Dr Rory Mackenzie, Interim Deputy National Clinical Director (Rory.Mackenzie@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk) or Martin Cardno, Project Manager (Martin.Cardno@nhs.scot).

Interview date to be advised, however interviews may take place online.

Background

In 2020, the Scottish Government commissioned the establishment of the new National Centre for Sustainable Delivery (CfSD). This Centre was specifically set up to design and drive transformation programmes – ‘Redesign for Recovery’ – to support NHS Boards to Remobilise, Recover and Redesign (3R’s) through sustainable transformation of health and social care harnessing innovation and digital solutions. CfSD will play a key role in underpinning the evolving 3R’s Care Programmes to support the strategic and policy intent of the Care Programmes aligned with the Programme for Government.

Its purpose is to:

  • Design and drive national redesign and transformation programmes to enable a sustainable health and care system providing world class excellence in care experience, outcomes through optimal care pathways.
  • Create a national unit to drive the objectives of the 3Rs Care Programmes taking learning from best practice in Scotland, the UK and across the world.
  • Undertake research and publish evidence based learning to establish the CfSD as an internationally recognised unit for system change.
  • Drive redesign and transformation through collaboration and partnership working – developing and maintaining networks of clinicians and senior leaders across different specialities and settings across health and social care, including primary, secondary and social care.
  • Assess, monitor and redesign through data analysis – use national and local data to inform system understanding, prioritisation and programme design to optimally achieve key objectives.

Vision

The Centre for Sustainable Delivery (CfSD) aspires to be an internationally recognised centre of excellence, promoting and embedding best practice through a ‘Once for Scotland’ approach and enabling a sustainable health and care system.

The CfSD will optimise collaborations with NHS Boards, health and social care partners, third sector, academia and industry to create new opportunities for sustainability. The CfSD will facilitate a streamlined and joined up approach to transforming and redesigning health and social care.

The CfSD is uniquely positioned to provide support and advice, including data analysis, to enable senior leaders across the health and social care system to set national priorities to be delivered through whole system redesign and transformation. CfSD will also provide expert redesign and transformation skills and support for delivery of improved outcomes through national programmes that include well-established quality improvement methods.
